Va, pensiero (Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves)

Nabucco is an opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Temistocle Solera. It was first performed on March 9, 1842 in Milan and tells the story of the Babylonian king Nabucco and the enslavement of the Jews in Babylon.

Arguably the most famous piece from the opera is the chorus "Va, pensiero," also known as the "Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves." This moving chorus is sung by the captive Hebrews as they reflect on their homeland and their longing to return there. With its powerful melodies and emotional lyrics, "Va pensiero" has become one of Verdi's most beloved works and a staple of the operatic repertoire.
